Education: Ikorodu LG awards N10,000 each to 100 indigent students
Ikorodu Local Government of Lagos State on Thursday gave out N10,000 bursary each to 100 indigent students of tertiary institutions in the area.
Presenting the bursaries at the council secretariat, the Chairman, Mr Wasiu Adesina, said that the beneficiaries were selected from the seven wards in the local government area.
He said that the council had consistently delivered on its promise to give bursary awards to indigent students every year.
According to the chairman, the council also distributed learning materials to primary school pupils and provided chairs and benches to some primary schools in the local government area.
He said the council also distributed free WASCE and UTME forms to some students in the area and promised to continue to support education as one of its focal points despite the meager resources.
He advised the students to face their studies and shun cultism that would derail them from their primary objective in pursuance of their academic career.
“The consistent promise to give bursary awards to students may appear impossible considering the resources at our disposal,” the chairman said.
Speaking, National President, National Association of Ikorodu Division Students, Samuel Soyiga, commended the chairman for the bursaries and advised beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Oyinlola Balogun, also advised his colleagues to shun cultism and other vices that would tarnish their image and that of their families. (NAN)
