EFCC Arrests 21 Suspected Cybercrime Fraudsters in Lagos, Recovers Five Exotic Cars
Operatives of the Lagos Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 21 suspected cybercrime fraudsters during a sting operation at Applewood Estate, Orchid Road, Lekki, Lagos State.
The operation was carried out at about 5:00 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026, following surveillance and reconnaissance into the activities of the suspects, who were allegedly obtaining money from unsuspecting victims through gift cards, cryptocurrencies and international money transfers while impersonating other individuals.
The EFCC also recovered five exotic cars during the operation.
According to the Commission, a young woman who allegedly attempted to alert the suspects by making telephone calls was held temporarily, and her phone was confiscated until the operation was concluded. The phone was subsequently returned to her.
The EFCC said preliminary investigations indicted 19 of the 21 suspects, while the remaining two were released. The 19 indicted suspects are expected to be arraigned in court.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to tackling economic and financial crimes and other acts of corruption, urging members of the public to support its efforts and condemn activities that damage Nigeria’s reputation.
It also maintained that the operation was professionally conducted, with no reported cases of harassment, intimidation or unlawful arrest.
The EFCC said it remained open to constructive engagement with well-meaning Nigerians but warned that attempts to undermine its mandate through blackmail or the spread of alarm would not be tolerated.
