EFCC Seeks Creative Industry Support in Fight Against Economic, Financial Crimes

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called for greater collaboration between the Commission and Nigeria’s creative industry in the fight against economic and financial crimes.

Olukoyede made the call on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in Abuja at an entertainment event tagged “Vintage with Gana.” He was represented by the Head of the EFCC Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE II Aisha Mohammed.

The EFCC Chairman said the creative industry, driven largely by talent and youth participation, could serve as an effective platform for public enlightenment and greater involvement in the fight against corruption.

According to him, the Commission remains committed to working with Nigerians across different sectors to prevent economic and financial crimes.

“I am actually here because the EFCC is the friend of the people. EFCC is not all about arrest, we have a face and we actually support creatives. That is why whenever there are events like this, the EFCC is actually there to support,” he said.

Olukoyede stressed that the fight against corruption should not be left to the EFCC alone, noting that the consequences of corruption affect society as a whole.

“When it results in bad roads, bad hospitals, insecurity, nobody is safe. So, all of us have to come together to salvage the country. We don’t have any country but Nigeria,” he said.

He urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to use their talents positively and shun cybercrime, fraud, looting and misappropriation of public resources.

“Nigerians are talented, we are smart, we are lovable, and we are brilliant people. It is just for us to put it to good use. So, say no to yahoo yahoo, say no to cybercrime, say no to looting and stealing, misappropriation,” he added.

The EFCC Chairman reiterated the Commission’s readiness to strengthen partnerships with the creative sector and other stakeholders as part of efforts to promote integrity and reduce economic and financial crimes in the country.

He said collective action remained essential in tackling corruption, adding that the EFCC was open to collaborations capable of supporting its anti-corruption mandate.

Senior EFCC officials who attended the event included the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Commander of the EFCC, CE Michael Nzekwe; Director of Investigation, Abdulkarim Chukkol; Director of Internal Audit, Mrs Idowu Oluwole-Apejoye; EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale; and Head of the Public Interface Unit, Tony Orilade, among others.
