Eliminate social evils, concentrate on national development — Gov Aliyu tells leaders
By Matthew Atungwu
Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu urged leaders at all levels to concentrate on the advancement of the country and work towards the eradication of social evils on Sunday.
He made the call at a memorial speech honoring the late Mu’azu Liman-Yabo, a Sokoto lawyer, activist, and philanthropist.
He emphasized that in order for society to advance, leaders must work even harder, pointing out that the developments that take place in any given society are a true mirror of what is going on in the world.
”People in the society can only achieve desired development when leaders and followers consistently fulfill their responsibilities,” he said.

Aliyu, who was represented by Secretary to the State Government, Bello Sifawa, expressed concern about the frequent declaration of industrial actions that were affecting innocent people in hospitals, higher institutions, and other public places.
”It is unprecedented for us to declare a strike when our innocent masses are in hospitals, seeking proper medical attention.
” These actions disproportionately have an impact on the vulnerable persons who we always claim to be advocating for,” he said.
“They often opt for private health facilities for themselves and their families, while the wealthy seek private healthcare.,” he stated.
The governor commended the event planners for their vision and promised government assistance for the initiative to help the underprivileged in society.
