Ex-Kaduna Governor El-Rufai Reveals Brother Avoided Arrest, Missed Mother’s Funeral

Speaking during the Firdau prayer for Hajiya Umma El-Rufai in Abuja, El-Rufai explained that security agencies were allegedly planning to detain Bashir, prompting the family to keep him in Cairo, Egypt.
“My elder brother Bashir El-Rufai couldn’t make it because we learned that there is a plan to arrest him. They believe if they get him, I will negotiate. That was why we asked him to stay in Cairo and I will be present,” he said.
Family members, associates, and sympathisers attended the gathering, which forms part of Islamic burial rites. According to El-Rufai, the decision to keep Bashir abroad was made prior to both the funeral and the Firdau prayer.
Bashir El-Rufai was absent from both events, while Nasir El-Rufai has recently been engaged in multiple proceedings with Nigerian anti-graft and security agencies.
