“Exercise Golden Dawn III” is making impacts in the South East Region” – Brigadier-Gen Onyema
Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier Onyema Nwachukwu has highlighted the ongoing successes of the Nigerian Army in three major exercises—Still Waters, Enduring Peace, and Golden Dawn, with particular note on the significant impact of “Exercise Golden Dawn III” in the SouthEastern geopolitical zone.
He recalled the fact that the exercises were launched on October 9, 2023, under the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, to fortify security in various regions, with Golden Dawn focusing on the South East.

Under “Exercise Golden Dawn III,” troops have achieved commendable results. On October 30, 2023, in Abakaliki LGA of Ebonyi State, a fighting patrol led by troops of the 82 Division Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, arrested two suspected criminals. The operation resulted in the recovery of two Pistol Guns, 179 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 25 live cartridges, 3 AK 47 Rifle Magazines, one Dane Gun, one digital camera, a detonating cord, 57 water gel explosives, and one bag of plastic explosive.
Additionally, on November 4, 2023, the 14 Brigade Nigerian Army conducted an ambush operation in Ummunneochi LGA of Abia State during “Exercise Golden Dawn III.” This operation led to the neutralization of one IPOB/ESN dissident and the recovery of a Pump Action Gun with 3 live cartridges, among other items.
Furthermore, on November 16, 2023, troops of the 302 Artillery Regiment, while on a night patrol in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State, engaged suspected members of IPOB/ESN criminals. The firefight resulted in the neutralization of two criminals, the recovery of one Double Barrel Gun, one motorcycle, and two mobile phones.
The comprehensive efforts under “Exercise Golden Dawn III” underscore the Nigerian Army’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the South East region.
The Chief of Army Staff commended the troops for their achievements and urged them to sustain the momentum in order to decisively curb criminal activities across the country.
The Nigerian Army also called on law-abiding citizens to actively participate by providing useful and actionable information to security agencies, fostering a collaborative approach to ensure lasting peace in the South East.
