The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security and safety around the Murtala Muhammed International Airport through closer collaboration with traditional institutions in surrounding host communities.

Representing the Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Henry Agbebire, met with traditional rulers from communities surrounding the airport, including the Isolo, Ewu, Shasha, Ejigbo and Orisumbare kingdoms.

The strategic engagement focused on strengthening cooperation in key areas affecting airport operations and public safety.

Among the issues discussed was environmental management, particularly measures aimed at reducing bird strike hazards linked to poor waste disposal practices around the airport environment.

The meeting also addressed aviation security concerns and explored collaborative approaches to protecting lives, property and critical national infrastructure within and around the airport corridor.

According to FAAN, the discussions also provided an opportunity for host communities to share local insights that could support peaceful coexistence and improve coordination on security-related matters.

Traditional rulers at the meeting reportedly pledged their support toward initiatives designed to enhance safety and security around the airport.

The authority emphasised that ensuring safe airspace and protecting aviation infrastructure require collective efforts involving both institutions and surrounding communities.
