FG Begins ₦50,000 Monthly Cash Relief for Vulnerable Nigerians Under New NERSI Programme
The Federal Government has announced the commencement of the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), a Presidential initiative designed to provide immediate financial support to vulnerable households across the country.
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction announced the programme on Friday, October 30, 2026, saying it was introduced in response to rising food prices and the high cost of essential goods affecting households nationwide.
Under the intervention, eligible beneficiaries will receive ₦50,000 monthly to help meet basic needs and ease the pressure of rising living costs.
The Ministry explained that the programme would be reviewed regularly in line with changes in the cost of living, adding that beneficiaries would be notified directly before any adjustment is made.
To ensure secure, timely and transparent payments, the government is working with licensed digital financial service providers. Beneficiaries will receive an SMS from one of the approved providers requesting their consent. Once consent is given, the payment will be made directly into their bank account or mobile wallet.
The Ministry said NERSI would complement existing Federal Government social protection and economic support programmes, while strengthening household resilience and economic stability in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
It also warned that beneficiaries are not required to apply, pay any fee or register through agents to receive the support.
The Ministry cautioned Nigerians against sharing their personal identification numbers (PINs) or Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs) with anyone. Those who have concerns about messages received or are asked to pay money to access the programme can contact the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.
