FG Confirms Former President Goodluck Jonathan Safe, Departs Guinea-Bissau After Military Coup

The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed that former President Goodluck Jonathan is safe and has successfully left Guinea-Bissau following the military coup in the country.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said Jonathan departed Guinea-Bissau on a special flight alongside members of his delegation, including Mohamed Chambas.

The former Nigerian leader had been in the country to monitor the recently held presidential and legislative elections as head of the West African Elders Forum Election Observation Mission.
