FG Presents Letters of Credence to Newly Appointed Nigerian Envoys, Reaffirms Commitment to Strong Global Representation

The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, on Friday, 28th November 2025, formally presented Letters of Credence to five newly appointed Nigerian envoys, marking another step in strengthening the nation’s diplomatic footprint across key regions of the world.

Those who received their letters include Ambassador Olawale Emmanuel Awe, the new ECOWAS Permanent Representative; Ambassador Mairo Musa Abbas, Consul General in Guangzhou, China; Ambassador N.O. Okey-Uche, Consul General in Johannesburg, South Africa; Ambassador Ojo Olobode Steve, Consul General in Buea, Cameroon; and Ambassador Samalia Goni, Charge d’Affaires in Tripoli, Libya.

Welcoming the diplomats to the Ministry, the Spokesperson, Mr. Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, noted that the ceremony underscores Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its diplomatic engagement, foreign policy objectives, and international partnerships.

In his address, Ambassador Tuggar charged the new envoys to approach their assignments with a deep understanding of today’s fast-changing geopolitical landscape. He stressed the importance of strategic diplomacy, professional excellence, resilience, and analytical capacity in representing and protecting Nigeria’s interests abroad.

He reminded the diplomats that the world is evolving rapidly, and Nigeria must engage with clarity, purpose, and competence. “You carry the responsibility of showcasing Nigeria’s strengths, defending its interests, and building meaningful partnerships in your host nations,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Ambassador Awe expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Ministry for the trust placed in them. He assured that the envoys would serve with loyalty, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy goals.

The ceremony ended with group photographs and a directive encouraging the newly appointed envoys to maintain close communication with headquarters and regularly share updates on their mission activities for institutional record-keeping and public communication.
