The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to transforming Nigeria’s education sector through a comprehensive review of the basic education curriculum.

This was disclosed by the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Sununu, during the Stakeholders’ Dialogue and High-Level Policy Committee Meeting organised by the Nigerian Education Research and Development Council (NERDC) in Abuja.

In his remarks, Dr Sununu highlighted the critical importance of the curriculum review, stating that it is a key component in the broader efforts to enhance the quality of education across the country.

According to him, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is placing significant emphasis on upgrading education infrastructure as a foundation for the nation’s development.

The minister also called on teachers to take their responsibilities seriously, stressing the need for professionalism and dedication in the teaching profession. He emphasized that only qualified teachers should be recruited to ensure that students and pupils receive the best possible education.

Earlier in his goodwill message, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), called for an overhaul of curriculums across all levels of education to meet the 21st Century digital skills.

The DG said the review would be in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, to create millions of jobs by leveraging digital technologies and achieving a digital literacy rate of 95 per cent by 2030.

The dialogue, which brought together key stakeholders in the education sector, is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to engage with experts and practitioners in refining and implementing policies that will improve the standard of education in Nigeria.
