Fire Destroys Vehicles Worth Over ₦700 Million at Moses Benz’s Car Dealership
A fire outbreak at the dealership of Lagos-based car dealer Moses Benz has destroyed vehicles and property valued at over ₦700 million, including more than 21 cars purchased by customers who were yet to take delivery.
Moses Benz, also known as Moses Benz Autocare, narrated the incident in a video shared online, saying he closed his office at about 10 p.m. but received a call from his security guard around 2 a.m. informing him of the fire.
He said he immediately checked his security cameras and was shocked to see the flames spreading despite efforts to contain the fire with water and more than 10 fire extinguishers at the premises.
According to him, he contacted the fire service and other emergency agencies for assistance, but firefighters arrived about three hours later and brought the situation under control.
The dealer said the fire destroyed his office facilities and vehicles valued at over ₦500 million. He added that more than 21 vehicles belonging to customers, worth over ₦200 million, were also affected.
He expressed particular concern for customers who had paid for vehicles but had not yet received them, explaining that he had spent more than ₦200 million purchasing cars on their behalf.
“I spent over ₦200 million to buy cars for them, and they could not be able to pick their cars again. They spent over ₦100 million, ₦80 million, and they won’t be able to pick their cars again,” he said.
The visibly distressed dealer apologised to the affected customers, saying he was yet to establish the cause of the fire and that his greatest concern was the financial loss suffered by those who had trusted him with their money.
He also prayed for God to bless the affected customers financially and provide them with the opportunity to acquire even better vehicles in the future.
