Four Feared Dead, Several Injured as Truck Crashes Into Shops in Gombe
At least four people have reportedly lost their lives while several others sustained injuries following a road accident along the Gombe–Kumo Road at Mile Uku Sabuwa near Biu Roundabout.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred when a truck loaded with assorted food items allegedly lost control and veered off the road before crashing into roadside shops and pedestrians.
According to accounts from witnesses at the scene, the truck driver was attempting to make a U-turn when the vehicle reportedly suffered brake failure, causing it to ram into nearby structures and people.
Among those reportedly killed was a woman who was inside her shop at the time of the incident.
The accident triggered panic in the area as residents, sympathisers and emergency responders rushed to the scene to assist victims, with some rescue efforts carried out by people using their bare hands.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident, while the number of casualties and injured persons may be subject to further confirmation.
Rescue and emergency efforts were ongoing as residents mourned those affected by the tragedy.
