Fourth Edition of Armed Forces and Security Agencies Marathon Unveiled
In a gathering that brought together members of the armed forces, police agencies, and the press, the chairman of the organizing committee for the fourth edition of the Armed Forces and Security Agencies Marathon 2023, Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Timothy Marquis, officially introduced the upcoming event, shedding light on the historical significance of the marathon, a tradition spanning eight years since its inaugural edition.
Addressing the challenges faced due to the global pandemic, the chairman highlighted the resilience exhibited by the Armed Forces and Security Agencies, “despite the myriad of difficulties, the marathon has persisted as a testament to our commitment to physical fitness and camaraderie. The Directorate of Sport, in collaboration with the committee, have diligently crafted plans for the marathon, which were approved on the ninth of December,” he stated.

He further explained that “the primary objective of the marathon is to provide a platform for members of the armed forces and security agencies to engage in competitive sports, fostering skill improvement and unity.”
The committee encourages sporting enthusiasts in Abuja to participate in this year’s marathon, emphasizing the readiness of the organizers to conduct a successful event.
He assured that “with meticulous planning, the organisers have ensured medical facilities are readily available to address any unforeseen medical eventualities during the marathon. Road mapping is scheduled to be completed by Thursday, December 6, which will potentially cause minor inconveniences for road users along the route.
The marathon promises exciting rewards for participants, including two brand-new cars and cash prizes. The top performer, both male and female, will receive a car, while additional prizes, such as certificates, medals, and cash rewards, await others who distinguish themselves in the competition.
