FRSC Corps Marshal Joins African Leaders, Experts at ID4Africa 2026 in Abidjan
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, joined other top Nigerian government officials and international stakeholders at the ID4Africa 2026 conference held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from May 12 to 15, 2026.
Other Nigerian officials at the event included the Director General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote; the Director General of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Osufo Tellson Ojogun; and the National Commissioner of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, Dr. Vincent Olatunji.
The annual conference brought together identity management agencies, policymakers, technology experts, and development partners from across Africa and other parts of the world to explore emerging technologies and innovative solutions in digital identity management.
Discussions at the event focused on the use of biometric technology, national identity systems, passports, population databases, and data protection frameworks aimed at improving governance, strengthening security, and enhancing public service delivery across the continent.
Participants also examined strategies for building inclusive and secure digital identity systems capable of supporting economic development, social protection programmes, and efficient government services.
The conference served as a platform for African countries to exchange ideas, showcase technological advancements, and strengthen regional cooperation in identity management and digital transformation.
Organisers noted that the adoption of reliable digital identity systems remains critical to promoting financial inclusion, improving access to government services, and supporting national security efforts across Africa.
