FRSC Launches 30-Day Operation to Enforce Traffic Rules in FCT

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has initiated a 30-day intensive campaign, titled “Operation Karara,” to curb the rampant disregard for traffic lights within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The operation, which runs throughout September, is led by the FRSC’s traffic enforcement and control unit.
FRSC Sector Commander, Mr. Muta’a Chorrie, announced the initiative while addressing operatives at the sector command in Abuja on Monday. He emphasized that the operation specifically targets the reckless behavior of motorists, particularly commercial drivers, who frequently violate traffic rules in the area.
“The FRSC headquarters has provided necessary resources, including 200 additional personnel, 15 patrol vehicles, 10 motorcycles, and four towing vehicles, to facilitate stringent enforcement,” Chorrie stated. “The FRSC traffic enforcement and control unit is spearheading this special operation to enhance road safety in the territory. We will ensure that sanity is restored on the highways.”
He further disclosed that awareness campaigns have been carried out at major motor parks, religious centers, and public areas to educate people on the dangers of transporting petroleum products with passengers. “All unit commanders have been directed to ensure that no vehicle is allowed to carry fuel in their cars with passengers in the territory,” Chorrie added.
The FRSC boss urged road users to adhere to the directives, warning that the Corps would not tolerate reckless driving habits. He affirmed that the FRSC is committed to implementing effective traffic management strategies that promote socio-economic development in the territory while upholding legal standards.
This operation follows the directive issued by the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, on August 30, mandating an immediate crackdown on the transportation of inflammable products, such as fuel, with passengers.
