Accra, Ghana — The Broadway Theatre Festival 2025 is set to position Ghana as a global hub for cultural exchange when it opens in Accra from October 5th to 13th. The University of Ghana’s School of Performing Arts will serve as the festival ground, drawing artists, scholars, and cultural leaders from across Africa and beyond.
Delegates from Malawi, Kenya, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Nigeria, Togo, and the United States of America have confirmed participation, making this year’s edition one of the most internationally diverse in the festival’s history.

At the heart of the festival is the celebration of Heritage of Africa (HOA) — a commitment to honouring the continent’s music, dance, drama, and oral traditions while engaging contemporary performance practices.
“Heritage is not just what we inherit; it’s what we live and pass on,” the Festival Secretariat explained. “This festival is where the past meets the present, and where African voices find new strength on the global stage.”
The 2025 programme features stage productions, masterclasses, workshops, panel discussions, and a dedicated Heritage Day, designed to highlight Ghana’s cultural vibrancy while encouraging collaboration across borders. Young performers will also have the opportunity to learn directly from seasoned directors, choreographers, and visiting international experts.
The festival has evolved into more than an artistic showcase. It is now a platform for cultural diplomacy and tourism, with Ghana reaffirming its role as the “gateway to Africa.” Delegates arriving through Kotoka International Airport will be welcomed with traditional Ghanaian drums — a symbolic heartbeat of unity and hospitality.
For many, the Broadway Theatre Festival represents a chance for Africa to tell its own story, on its own terms, with the world watching.
With eight days of performances and cultural exchange, organizers say the 2025 edition will not only deepen regional ties but also spotlight Ghana as a centre for global artistic collaboration.
