GOC Praises troops as Nigerian Army celebrates WASA
The Nigerian Army (NA) celebrated its annual West African Social Activities (WASA) on 17 February 2024 at the Sobi Cantonment in Ilorin. The event was jointly organided by the Headquarters 22 Armoured Brigade, the Nigerian Army Institute of Science Education and Technology, and the Nigerian Army College of Education.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division NA, Major General Bamidele Alabi, commended the troops for their dedication and resilience in addressing various security challenges. He said “WASA was a time-honoured tradition and a social platform for the NA to interact with our families and the public in a friendly atmosphere, ” he said, adding that the WASA showcased the rich cultural diversity and the strong spirit of the NA. This event is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements and successes of the NA, as well as to strengthen the bonds and friendships among the officers and soldiers.”
Major General Alabi, who was represented by the Provost of the Nigerian Army College of Education, Major General Umar Babangida, thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, for his leadership and support for the WASA. He said that the provision of funds for the event demonstrated the importance of preserving the culture and traditions of the NA.
The event featured various cultural dances from different parts of the country, a tug of war competition between male and female corps members, awards for deserving soldiers, souvenirs for invited guests, and a bonfire.
The event was attended by heads of sister security and paramilitary agencies in Kwara State, as well as His Royal Highness, Ohoro of Shao, Oba Dr Job Obalowuatolagbe, and other dignitaries.
