The Accountant-General of Gombe State, Dr Aminu Yuguda, has formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election, promising to consolidate ongoing reforms and sustain the state’s development momentum.

Mr Yuguda made the declaration on Thursday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Gombe, where he was received by party officials and a crowd of supporters.

Addressing party members and journalists, the aspirant expressed appreciation for the turnout, describing it as a strong indication of widespread backing for his ambition.

“I am grateful to everyone who came out to support this journey, from young people to elders. Your presence is deeply encouraging,” he said.

Mr Yuguda, a career civil servant and public finance expert, said his professional background would shape his leadership approach, with a focus on strengthening institutions and maintaining policy consistency.

“I remain a civil servant at heart, and that philosophy will guide my administration. If elected, I will prioritise consolidating existing achievements and ensuring steady progress in governance,” he stated.

He added that his decision to join the race was informed by the need to build on the progress already recorded in the state, noting that disrupting current gains could slow development.

According to him, securing the support of the APC remains a key step in his political journey.

“I have come to seek the endorsement of our party as I aspire to serve as governor. The present administration has set a solid pace, and my goal is to improve on that foundation,” he said.

In his remarks, the state APC Chairman, Mohammed Dantata, assured Mr Yuguda and other aspirants of a level playing field during the party’s primaries.

Mr Dantata urged all contenders to abide by party guidelines and conduct their campaigns with civility, stressing that unity within the party would be critical to its success in the 2027 elections.
