The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The endorsement was ratified on Tuesday during the party’s state congress convened to elect a new leadership that will steer its affairs for the next four years.

The motion backing President Tinubu’s candidature was moved by the Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Usman Bello Kumo, and seconded by Hon. Abdullahi El-Rasheed, who represents Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency. Party members present at the congress overwhelmingly approved the motion through a voice vote.

Addressing delegates at the gathering, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya said the decision to adopt President Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate reflects appreciation for what he described as bold and purposeful leadership at a critical period in Nigeria’s history.

According to the governor, the endorsement demonstrates confidence in the President’s ability to navigate the country through economic and governance challenges.

“In moments like this, leadership demands courage, vision and commitment. We have seen these qualities demonstrated at the federal level,” he said, adding that Gombe State has consistently received support from the Presidency in its drive to deliver impactful projects and services to residents.

Governor Yahaya described Gombe as one of the APC’s strongest chapters nationwide, citing the outcome of the party’s recent e-registration and membership revalidation exercise. He disclosed that over 400,000 members were registered in the state, placing Gombe 10th nationally.

He attributed the surge in membership to growing public confidence in the APC-led administrations at both state and federal levels.

“We have implemented programmes and projects that directly touched the lives of our people, particularly in underserved communities. The massive registration is a reflection of that trust,” the governor stated.

He assured the party’s national leadership that the APC family in Gombe remains united and fully prepared to secure victory at all levels in the 2027 polls. He also commended the party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, for efforts aimed at strengthening internal democracy and cohesion across the country.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Gombe State APC Congress Committee, Dr. Danjuma Adamu Dabo, explained that the state adopted a consensus approach for the congress. He noted that all candidates presented under the arrangement were screened and cleared by the national screening committee, with no disputes recorded.

Dabo praised party stakeholders for creating a conducive atmosphere that ensured a smooth and credible exercise from ward to state level.

At the end of the congress, Mr. Mohammed Dantata Ndus emerged as the new state chairman of the APC. He described the event as historic and pledged to work closely with party leaders and members to strengthen unity and mobilize support ahead of future elections.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Yahaya for building what he termed a formidable party structure in the state, assuring that the new executive would consolidate on existing achievements to secure electoral victories.

The outgoing chairman, Mr. Nitte Amangal, also thanked party members and stakeholders for their cooperation during his tenure, promising continued loyalty and support for the party’s goals.

The congress attracted top party figures, including the deputy governor, serving and former members of the National Assembly, members of the State House of Assembly, commissioners, local government chairmen and other key stakeholders, underscoring the significance of the event in the state’s political calendar.
