Gombe Launches 4th Phase of GO-CARES, Targets 573,000 Vulnerable Citizens

In a major step toward alleviating poverty and fostering inclusive growth, Gombe State has officially flagged off the 4th phase of its COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (GO-CARES) programme.
The initiative aims to support over 573,000 vulnerable citizens across the state.
Speaking during the launch at Amada Village in Akko Local Government Area, the Chairman of the State Coordinating Technical Committee (SCTC) and Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Salihu Baba Alkali, emphasized the programme’s focus on assisting the poor, vulnerable groups, young entrepreneurs, and rural farmers.
“Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, under whose directive the programme was designed, continues to prioritise poverty reduction and economic empowerment in his administration,” Mr. Alkali said.
Of the 573,429 targeted beneficiaries, 152,429 will receive direct assistance in the form of agricultural inputs, cash grants, and business support, while 421,000 will benefit from community-focused infrastructure projects, such as the construction of classrooms, healthcare centers, water facilities, and the rehabilitation of rural roads and dams.
Highlighting the programme’s broader economic impact, the Commissioner noted its potential to boost micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and increase agricultural productivity.
“This phase will not only empower individuals but also enhance economic activities across the state,” he added.
Mr. Baba Alkali further stressed that the GO-CARES initiative is part of the administration’s strategy to reduce poverty, improve IT penetration, and promote long-term economic growth. The 4th phase is expected to be transformative for underserved communities, providing essential resources to help residents thrive.
He urged beneficiaries to make the most of this opportunity to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the state’s development.
“This latest effort reaffirms the state’s commitment to building a sustainable, resilient economy for all its citizens,” the Commissioner concluded.
