Gombe State Governor Flags Off New Round of Food Palliative Intervention

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has launched a fresh initiative to provide food palliatives to 90,000 impoverished individuals across the state. The distribution, inaugurated at the Emir’s Palace in Gombe local government, aims to support those most affected by the removal of the fuel subsidy.

During the event, Governor Inuwa Yahaya underscored the continuation of this intervention, emphasizing its role in mitigating the challenges faced by the citizens since the fuel subsidy removal. He expressed the government’s commitment to addressing the economic difficulties arising from the subsidy removal and assured the public that efforts would persist until poverty challenges are overcome.

Acknowledging the economic hardships caused by the removal of the fuel subsidy, Governor Yahaya assured citizens that the revitalization of the Port Harcourt refinery and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership would soon bring relief. He urged farmers to harvest their crops promptly to facilitate peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.

The Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Palliatives Distribution Committee, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, disclosed that the exercise would cover all 2,998 polling units in the state. Each unit is set to benefit 25 individuals, with allocations of spaghetti pasta and rice distributed across the 114 political wards.

Dr. Jatau also revealed the government’s plan to extend the palliative gesture to identified clubs and associations in the state. He called on distribution sub-committees to handle their responsibilities with utmost responsibility and trust.

The District Head of Nasarawo, Alhaji Usman Shettima, expressed gratitude for Governor Yahaya’s intervention, highlighting the administration’s commendable efforts in maintaining peace and security in the state. He urged citizens to reciprocate by adhering to the law.

The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, emphasized that the continuous distribution of relief items aligns with Governor Yahaya’s commitment to the welfare of the people. The distribution exercise is set to continue at ward and polling unit levels across the state.
