Gov. Bago Pledges Completion of IBBU Teaching Hospital, Supports Medical Students with ₦82 Million, Bus
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Teaching Hospital, describing the project as critical to strengthening medical education and healthcare delivery in the state.
Governor Bago made the pledge while receiving 41 medical students of IBBU Lapai, who are currently undergoing clinical training at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, under a special admission arrangement.
The governor said the completion of the teaching hospital would significantly enhance the training of medical and other health-related professionals within the state, reducing dependence on institutions outside Niger State for clinical education.
Congratulating the students on reaching a significant milestone in their academic journey, Governor Bago assured them of his administration’s continued support towards ensuring they achieve their dreams of becoming qualified medical professionals.
He urged the students to remain focused, uphold discipline, and serve as worthy ambassadors of Niger State throughout their studies and professional careers.
As part of the state’s support, Governor Bago announced a financial grant of ₦2 million each to the 41 students, amounting to ₦82 million, to assist them in their academic pursuits. He also donated an 18-seater bus to ease their daily transportation between their accommodation and lecture theatres in Zaria.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Murtala Bagana, commended the governor for his unwavering commitment to strengthening the health sector and advancing medical education in the state. He assured the governor of the ministry’s continued support in achieving the administration’s healthcare objectives.
On behalf of the students, the pioneer President of the IBBU Lapai Medical Students Association, Jamilu Mikhail, expressed appreciation to Governor Bago for introducing medical education at IBBU Lapai and for the sustained support that has enabled them to pursue their professional aspirations.
He pledged that upon completing their studies, the students would return to Niger State to contribute their knowledge and skills toward improving healthcare services for the people.
The governor’s intervention is part of the Niger State Government’s broader efforts to strengthen the health sector through investments in infrastructure, manpower development, and the training of healthcare professionals.
