Governor Kefas Seeks Expanded Naval Presence in Taraba During Courtesy Visit to Naval Chief

The Executive Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency Dr Agbu Kefas, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Admiralty Medal), at the Naval Headquarters in Abuja.

During the visit, Governor Kefas congratulated Vice Admiral Abbas on his appointment and commended the Nigerian Navy for its critical role in strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture. He particularly acknowledged the efforts of naval personnel under Operation WHIRL STROKE and advocated for the expansion of naval operations in Taraba State, especially across its riverine areas.

The Governor stressed the need to deepen strategic collaboration through increased naval presence in the state, noting that such efforts would enhance public confidence in security and encourage greater participation of Taraba indigenes in enlisting into the Nigerian Navy.

He also highlighted the importance of sustained inter-agency cooperation in addressing security challenges confronting the state.

In his response, the Chief of the Naval Staff commiserated with the Governor over the security concerns in Taraba and assured him of the Nigerian Navy’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property. Vice Admiral Abbas emphasized the critical role of intelligence sharing and inter-agency collaboration in effectively tackling insecurity.

The CNS further commended Governor Kefas for adopting non-kinetic and education-driven approaches to addressing security challenges, reaffirming the Navy’s readiness to support initiatives aimed at improving security nationwide and enabling citizens to carry out their lawful activities without fear.

The visit was attended by Principal Staff Officers of the Naval Headquarters, Distinguished Senators of the National Assembly, Honourable Members of the Federal House of Representatives from Taraba State, as well as members of the Taraba State Executive Council.
