The visit, part of the COAS’s operational tour of 34 Artillery Brigade at Obinze Barracks in Owerri on Thursday, January 11, 2024, provided an opportunity for Governor Uzodinma to commend the troops for their dedication.
Governor Uzodinma highlighted the tireless efforts of the troops, working collaboratively with other services and security agencies to restore peace and stability in Imo State and neighbouring regions. He credited the synergy between the military and other security agencies, operating under the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDOKA, for creating a secure environment during the recently concluded elections in the state. “All I can do is pledge my continued support, in encouraging the troops to sustain their efforts for the socio-economic growth of Imo State, the South East, and Nigeria as a whole. Additionally, I like to urge the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to intensify efforts in the North East and North West to restore peace in those troubled regions,” he said.
During his address, the COAS, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja emphasized his visit to the 82 Division area of responsibility to engage with troops, assess their well-being, evaluate infrastructure conditions, and oversee ongoing operations. He commended Imo State and the entire South East region for overcoming previous apprehensions and insecurity, attributing the success to the collaboration of the good people and government of Imo and other South Eastern states with the Nigerian Army, sister services, and other security agencies. General Lagbaja stressed the importance of a holistic societal approach as a potent remedy for addressing security challenges in the South East.
In a specific address to the troops of 34 Artillery Brigade, the COAS said “do not to be swayed from the constitutional objectives of the Nigerian Army,” as he assured them that their working and living conditions would remain a top priority under his command.
