Grenada PM Visits Dangote Group, Seeks Dangote’s Partnership in Cement, Fertiliser Production

Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, has expressed keen interest in partnering with the Dangote Group, particularly in cement and fertiliser production, during his recent visit to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals complex in Lagos. Mitchell, who also serves as the Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), lauded the refinery as a transformative investment for Africa’s industrialization, emphasizing its significance for developing nations.

The Prime Minister highlighted that investments like the Dangote Refinery are essential to reversing the cycle of exporting raw materials and importing finished products—a practice that has stunted the growth of many developing countries. “This investment is a tribute to Dangote’s vision for Africa’s self-sufficiency in manufacturing and industrialization,” Mitchell stated.
During his tour, Mitchell praised the refinery’s automation and the impressive number of young Nigerians employed in the project, noting that the future of Nigeria looks promising with such talent. “Seeing so many bright young Nigerians involved in this sophisticated operation is truly inspiring,” he remarked.
Mitchell also discussed potential collaborations between the Caribbean and Africa, particularly in areas such as petroleum, cement, and fertiliser production, further solidifying economic ties between the regions.
Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, welcomed the Caribbean interest, acknowledging the opportunity to expand partnerships across the Caribbean in various sectors. He noted that the refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is capable of meeting Nigeria’s entire demand for petroleum products, with surplus for export.
“This visit is symbolic of the potential for further collaboration between Africa and the Caribbean,” Dangote said, emphasizing the possibility of mutual benefits through the import of crude from the Caribbean while supplying refined petroleum products.
The Dangote Refinery is the largest single-train refinery in the world and is set to reshape Africa’s energy landscape.
