GSU gives septuagenarian Inventor without formal education honorary doctoral degree

Engineer Hadi Usman, an inventor who established a radio station, radio transmitter, Vespa engine helicopter, and telephone (handset) in Gombe in the 1970s, has received an honorary doctorate from Gombe State University.

This was said by Vice Chancellor Prof Aliyu Usman EL-Nafaty during his speech at the University’s combined convocation event on Saturday in Gombe.

He stated that Hadi Usman is a self-made scientist and innovator who trained himself to create electronic and electrical appliances that answer the energy difficulties that people face.

“Hadi Usman, recently invented cooking stoves that use water and generating plants that generate energy up to 7.5 kva without the use of any fuel and many other gadgets,” he said.

According to our correspondent, Usman never received a formal education and only attended Tsangaya School, where he memorized the Holy Qur’an at the age of 12.

Usman started a radio station in Gombe in 1970 and also utilized a Vespa engine to build a helicopter.
