Aisha Hanan Buhari, founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Hanan Buhari Foundation, has been honoured as one of Africa’s 100 Most Notable Peace Icons at the 100 Most Notable Africans Leadership and Business Summit 2026 held in Marrakech.

The recognition was presented by the Davdan Peace and Advocacy Foundation in recognition of her contributions to humanitarian service, peacebuilding, social justice and community empowerment.

Receiving the award, Hanan Buhari described the recognition as both an honour and a responsibility, saying it reaffirmed her belief that meaningful change can be achieved through compassion, dedication and selfless service.

She noted that the award also reflected the collective efforts of the foundation’s staff, volunteers, partners and supporters, whose commitment has helped expand its humanitarian impact.

Hanan dedicated the honour to her late father, Muhammadu Buhari, saying his values, discipline and commitment to public service continue to inspire her humanitarian work.

She also acknowledged the support of her husband and co-founder of the Hanan Buhari Foundation, Muhammad Turad Sha’aban, for his role in strengthening the organisation’s outreach and community development initiatives.

The foundation said it remains committed to expanding programmes focused on humanitarian intervention, community empowerment, education and sustainable development across Nigeria and other parts of Africa.

The recognition places Hanan Buhari among a select group of African leaders, entrepreneurs and changemakers celebrated for advancing peace, promoting social impact and contributing to the continent’s development through leadership and service.
