Heat Wave: GM OWMA urges residents of Osun to remain hydrated

The General Manager, Osun Waste Management Agency, OWMA, Sanitarian Fatai Oladosu Oyewole, has advised residents of Osun State to remain well hydrated by taking water intermittently in order to avoid the current period of heat.
Sanitarian Oyewole who was speaking with our Correspondent during a telephone chart on Friday said, we are gradually entering a period of heat that will be difficult to bear day and night due to heat waves resulting from the emission of greenhouse gases.
The General Manager who advised people to stay hydrated said, in order to cope with the current climatic conditions, people should drink more water to stay hydrated always at this period.
“Needs also be stressed here that public should wear their nose masks and check periodically their medical status to avert sudden death” he advised.
However, the OWMA GM reiterated the efforts of Governor Nurudeen Jackson Ademola Adeleke’s led administration in Osun State in providing good environment for the residents of the state to prevent incidences of flooding and to avert epidemic diseases.
Sanitarian Oyewole who warned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse as well as blockage of the stream now that the rainy season is around the corner informed of the readiness of his agency to enlighten the people of the state on the need to desist from the negative habit which is one of the major causes of flooding.
He noted that the rainy season is fast approaching and residents have a responsibilities to protect their environment by desisting from throwing their waste in roadside gutters.
The GM OWMA, noted that, Governor Adeleke’s led government is committed to a clean, conducive, hygienic and flood-free environment and therefore, would not tolerate any violation of the state’s environmental law.
While highlighting the importance of maintaining a clean environment, Sanitarian Oyewole emphasised that, a clean environment would engender a healthy atmosphere and check epidemics.
According to Sanitarian Oyewole, “the state government is doing everything possible for the entire residents of the state to have a conducive environment by constructing and reconstructing drainages towards the elimination of flooding in the state.
“Similarly, as part of efforts of the government to averts flooding in Osun is for the residents not to burn their refuse in or around premise as it is inimical to human health while it is imperative for them to partner with the accredited PSP Waste Contractor allocated to their at affordable price and ensure of getting necessary receipt from them.
“We want to use this medium to admonished the general public to report any waste contractor who failed to deliver as expected from them to OWMA at the old Boorepo building, ring road, Osogbo and for any illegal dumping of refuse, public should also report same at the nearest local government water and environmental sanitation department.
“The agency aside from enlightened the public also embark on early morning apprehension of sanitation offenders who are in the habit of dumping refuse indiscriminately on the roads.
“It is also important that the public should be wary of this dry season and not allowing fire outbreak in their environment.
“To prevent food borne infections, each local government has been mandated to commence food handlers training within their domain.
