Hostages freed from Kuriga school in Kaduna, as President Tinubu Calls for enhanced schools security

In a remarkable display of swift action and coordination, security forces, in collaboration with local authorities, successfully rescued hostages abducted from LEA School Kuriga in Chikun LGA of Kaduna State. The rescue operation, conducted in the early hours of March 24, 2024, resulted in the liberation of 137 individuals, comprising 76 females and 61 males, who had been held captive since the terrorist invasion on March 7.
The rescued hostages were discovered in Zamfara State and will be safely conveyed and handed over to the Kaduna State Government for further assistance and care. This significant breakthrough follows the military’s unwavering commitment to leaving no stone unturned until all hostages are brought to safety.
In a related development, security forces also rescued 16 pupils, known as Almajiris, along with a woman held hostage in Gada LGA of Sokoto State on March 21, 2024. These hostages have been handed over to the Sokoto State Government, marking another successful operation in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of citizens across the country.
However, President Bola Tinubu has expressed his delight at the successful rescue of the Kuriga school children in Kaduna State, emphasising the paramount importance of collaboration between the federal government and states to achieve positive outcomes, particularly in matters of security.
Commending the National Security Adviser, Security Agencies, and the Kaduna State Government for their prompt and diligent response to the situation, President Tinubu highlighted the crucial role of urgency, attention to detail, and unwavering dedication in achieving successful outcomes in cases of mass abductions.
The President also welcomed the release of pupils from a Tsangaya school in Sokoto State, applauding all parties involved for their courageous efforts.
“My administration remain committed to ensuring the safety of schools as conducive environments for learning. All necessary, and comprehensive deployment of comprehensive strategies to prevent further incidents of abduction and violence in educational institutions, will be deployed, as and when due,’ Mr. President t pledged.
