ICPC Confirms Gbajabiamila Honoured Invitation Over Alleged Fake Presidential Council Investigation
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, honoured its invitation and provided a statement to investigators as part of the ongoing probe into the alleged fraudulent Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
In a statement issued by the Commission’s Media Unit, the ICPC clarified that Gbajabiamila’s visit to its headquarters in Abuja was in line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the controversial organisation.
According to the Commission, investigators are examining how the purported PFIPC, which had earlier been disowned by the Presidency as a fraudulent entity, allegedly operated from the Federal Secretariat in Abuja for about two years.
The investigation centres on Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who is alleged to have presented himself as the Director-General of the purported council during the period under review.
The anti-corruption agency stated that the Chief of Staff’s appearance before investigators formed part of efforts to establish all relevant facts surrounding the case.
The ICPC further dismissed reports suggesting that Gbajabiamila had been arrested, stressing that he voluntarily honoured the Commission’s invitation and fully cooperated with investigators by giving his statement.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to conducting a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the matter, assuring Nigerians that all individuals connected with the case would be treated in accordance with the law.
The ICPC also reaffirmed its determination to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the alleged operation of the fraudulent entity and ensure accountability in line with its statutory mandate to combat corruption and related offences.
