INEC Extends Deadline for Submission of Candidates for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the submission of candidates’ lists by political parties for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The Commission announced that the previous deadline of Saturday, July 11, 2026, as contained in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election, has been extended to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

INEC said the decision followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the stipulated timeframe.

The Commission explained that the extension reflects its commitment to ensuring an inclusive electoral process while remaining within the provisions of the Electoral Act.

INEC urged all political parties to take advantage of the additional time to complete the online submission of their candidates’ details before the new deadline expires.

The Commission stressed that no further extension should be expected after the expiration of the new submission window.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, on July 12, 2026.
