ITF Concludes International Certification for SUPA Artisans in Abuja
The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has concluded international certification examinations for beneficiaries of its Skill Up Artisans (SUPA) programme in the Federal Capital Territory, reinforcing efforts to equip Nigerian artisans with globally competitive technical skills.
The two-day certification exercise, held in Abuja, was supervised by Turkish certification body Alberk QA Technic and involved 296 artisans trained under the SUPA initiative.
Speaking on the development, the Director-General of ITF, Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun, described the exercise as a major milestone in strengthening the global relevance and employability of Nigerian artisans.
He said the examinations covered more than 20 vocational and technical trades critical to Nigeria’s industrial growth, including fashion design, welding and fabrication, cyber security, automechanics, tiling, bricklaying, painting and decoration, electrical and electronics, and carpentry.
According to him, the certification process followed internationally recognised standards, adding that it would validate the competencies acquired by participants and provide them with credible qualifications for both local and international opportunities.
Dr. Ogun noted that the involvement of Alberk QA Technic enhanced the credibility and transparency of the exercise, while also improving its global acceptance.
He further recalled that the City & Guilds of London Institute had previously approved ITF as an examination centre and conducted a mock certification exercise for SUPA trainees in preparation for global standards assessment.
The ITF boss explained that the SUPA programme is aimed at improving the productivity, earning potential, and employability of Nigerian artisans, while opening pathways to international labour markets.
The initiative is part of broader efforts by the Fund to strengthen skills development and support Nigeria’s industrial and economic transformation.
