Kano Emirate Tussle: Soldiers Not Involved, Army Clarifies
In response to recent allegations by the Kano state chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association, as published by Premium Times on May 26, 2024, the Nigerian Army has clarified that its troops are not involved in the Kano state emirate tussle or enforcing any court orders. Instead, their role is limited to preventing any potential breakdown of security related to the conflict.
The Nigerian Army emphasized that its primary concern, along with other security agencies, is to maintain law and order in Kano state. This measure aims to prevent adversarial non-state actors from exploiting the situation.
The military, has assured the public that it will only intervene if the security situation escalates beyond the control of the police. Currently, the Army is monitoring the developments and remains on standby to address any threats to state and regional security.
Onyema Nwachukwu, Major General and Director of Army Public Relations, reiterated that the Army’s actions are precautionary and aimed at safeguarding the stability of the region.
