Kano Police Arrest Suspect with Firearm, Suspected Indian Hemp During Operation Clean Plates
The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 51-year-old man, Mahi Ibrahim, during the ongoing Operation Clean Plates, recovering a pistol, suspected Indian hemp and other items from his vehicle.
The Command said the suspect, a resident of Rijiyar Zaki area of Kano, was intercepted by police operatives in the Panshekara area while officers were enforcing traffic and security regulations within the Kano metropolis.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, officers became suspicious after sighting an unregistered vehicle. The driver allegedly refused to stop when flagged down and attempted to escape, prompting a chase that led to his arrest.
A subsequent search of the vehicle reportedly led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol, dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, a sharp knife, several mobile phones, 120 lithium batteries and the vehicle, which police suspect may have been stolen.
The Police Command said the suspect and the recovered exhibits have been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
The Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining security operations across the state and urged residents to continue supporting the police by providing credible information that would assist in combating crime and criminality.
