The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its longstanding relationship with the Republic of Sudan through expanded cooperation in healthcare, education, commerce and cultural exchange.

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Murtala Sule Garo, stated this when he received the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Nigeria, H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Abdullahi Haroon, at the Government House, Kano, on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The Deputy Governor described the relationship between Kano and Sudan as a historic bond spanning centuries and rooted in shared religious, cultural, educational and commercial heritage.

He said the enduring ties between the two peoples provide a strong foundation for deeper and mutually beneficial partnerships, particularly in areas that can directly improve the lives of citizens.

Garo reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to work with the Sudanese government to expand collaboration in healthcare, education, commerce and cultural exchange, noting that stronger bilateral engagement would create new opportunities for both Kano and Sudan.

The Deputy Governor also conveyed the sympathy of the Government and people of Kano State to the Government and people of Sudan over the humanitarian challenges arising from the ongoing conflict in the country.

He prayed for lasting peace and stability in Sudan, as well as the speedy recovery and restoration of affected communities.

On behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration, Garo further expressed appreciation to the Government of Sudan for its generous offer of fully funded scholarships for students from Kano State, describing the initiative as an important contribution to strengthening educational ties between the two sides.

He expressed optimism that the renewed engagement would further deepen the historic relationship between Kano and Sudan and translate into greater opportunities for their people.

The Kano State Government, he assured, remains committed to building on the centuries-old connection and fostering partnerships that promote education, economic development, cultural understanding and shared prosperity.
