The Chief Executive Officer of Basari Apparels and Textiles Nigeria Limited, Kano-based tailor Abdulkadir Basari, has commenced a 120-hour continuous sewing challenge aimed at setting a Guinness World Record while supporting disadvantaged schoolchildren.

The five-day challenge, tagged Sew for the Nation, began on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the sports complex of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria in Kano and is expected to conclude on Monday night, October 12.

Announcing the initiative on his social media platforms, Basari said the challenge would focus on producing school uniforms for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds attending public schools.

“I am here to announce Sew for the Nation, a Guinness World Record attempt,” he said.

He explained that the initiative was designed to combine a record-breaking effort with support for education and vulnerable communities.

According to Basari, the project goes beyond setting a record, as it seeks to demonstrate how creativity, resilience and vocational skills can contribute to community development and improve access to education.

“This is more than a record. This is for every dreamer, every artisan and every young Nigerian with a vision,” he said, urging members of the public to support the initiative.

The challenge highlights the potential of local craftsmanship to promote social impact while inspiring young Nigerians to pursue their ambitions through dedication, innovation and hard work.
