Kebbi Schoolgirls’ Abduction: Northern Governors Condemn Attack, Demand Swift Rescue
The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has condemned the deadly attack on Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, where several students were abducted and some officials reportedly killed.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Director-General, Press Affairs, Gombe Government House, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, described the incident as “tragic, senseless, and utterly unacceptable.”
Governor Inuwa Yahaya warned that the continued targeting of schools poses a grave danger to the region’s stability and Nigeria’s educational future.
He said schools must remain sanctuaries of learning, not theatres of violence, adding that persistent assaults on educational institutions risk undoing the progress made in boosting enrolment and addressing the out-of-school challenge in the North.
On behalf of the Forum, he commiserated with the government and people of Kebbi State, particularly the families of the abducted girls and officials who lost their lives.
He assured Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State of the NSGF’s solidarity and support during this difficult period.
The Forum’s Chairman expressed deep concern about the trauma the abducted students may be experiencing and called for a swift, coordinated response by security agencies to secure their safe return and bring the attackers to justice.
Reaffirming the NSGF’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government and security institutions, Governor Inuwa Yahaya said the safety, welfare, and education of young Nigerians remain central to the Forum’s agenda.
He prayed for the safe rescue of the schoolgirls and offered heartfelt condolences to the affected families, urging communities to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with security agencies in the ongoing effort to eliminate criminality across the region.
