Kwara Celebrates Young Spellers as Maryam Yusuf, Abdurrahman Yusuf Return with World Cup Medals
The Kwara State Government has celebrated the outstanding achievement of two young spellers from the state who returned home with international honours after representing Nigeria at the Spelling Bee World Cup in Shanghai, China.
A delegation of the Kwara State Government received Maryam Yusuf, Gold Award medalist, and Abdurrahman Yusuf, Silver Award medalist, both of Ar-Raheem School, at the Ilorin International Airport.
The two young talents were part of Team Nigeria that competed against some of the brightest young minds from around the world at the international spelling competition.
Their success earned Nigeria Gold and Silver medals, while bringing particular pride to Kwara State and their school.
Team Nigeria also included Oluwadamilola Adeolu of St. Lawrence Schools, Ado-Ekiti, and Chinedu Okediachi of Madonna International College, Asaba.
The Kwara State Government commended the young spellers for their exceptional performance, describing their achievement as a demonstration of the talent, discipline and intellectual capacity of Nigerian children.
Maryam and Abdurrahman were praised not only for participating in the global competition but for distinguishing themselves on the international stage and returning home with medals.
Their achievement, the government noted, underscores the importance of investing in education and creating opportunities for young Nigerians to develop their talents and compete globally.
The government further applauded the students, their parents, teachers and school for their dedication and hard work, stressing that the accomplishment demonstrates what young people from Kwara and Nigeria can achieve when given the right support and opportunities.
From Ilorin to Shanghai, Maryam and Abdurrahman have shown that Nigerian brilliance can shine on the world stage — and bring home gold and silver.
