LGCF Sensitises Dobi Community on Gender-Based Violence, Human Rights
The LGCF has intensified community-level awareness on gender-based violence (GBV), human rights and torture prevention through a sensitisation outreach held in Dobi Community.
The outreach, coordinated by Ummulkuruthum Dauda, brought together 20 community members for discussions on the causes and consequences of gender-based violence, individual rights and available avenues for seeking support and protection.
Participants were sensitised on the importance of recognising different forms of violence and human rights violations, speaking out against abuse and seeking appropriate assistance when their rights are threatened or violated.
The engagement also focused on torture prevention, encouraging community members to understand their fundamental rights and play an active role in promoting safer and more respectful communities.
The LGCF team emphasised that addressing gender-based violence requires collective responsibility, with individuals, families, community leaders and organisations working together to prevent abuse, support survivors and promote respect for human dignity.
The organisation expressed appreciation to OMCT for its support in making the outreach possible, as well as other partners working to advance human rights, including the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims, Ford Foundation and UN Women.
The initiative underscores the importance of grassroots sensitisation in empowering communities with the knowledge needed to recognise, prevent and respond to gender-based violence and other human rights violations.
