Liberia Police Withdraws Misleading Global Ranking Claim

The Liberia National Police (LNP) has withdrawn a recent publication which claimed that the agency was ranked 10th in Africa and 70th globally in the 2026 World Internal Security and Police Index (WISPI).

In a statement, the police authority said an internal review revealed that the information was based on an unverified and misinterpreted source, noting that established communication protocols were not followed before the release.

The LNP clarified that a review of the referenced material showed that the Global Peace Index assesses countries based on overall levels of peacefulness and does not evaluate or rank police institutions.

According to the police, the position attributed to Liberia reflected the country’s standing on national peace indicators rather than the performance of the police force.

“The LNP regrets the error and any confusion caused,” the statement read.

The police further disclosed that it is strengthening its internal communication processes to prevent a recurrence, including stricter verification procedures, enhanced supervisory oversight, and mandatory authentication of sources before public dissemination.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to accuracy, accountability, and professionalism in all its public communications.
