Linda Ikeji Media Announces August 28 Cinema Release for The Night of June 7th
Linda Ikeji Media has announced the nationwide theatrical release of its latest feature film, The Night of June 7th, scheduled to open in cinemas across Nigeria on Thursday, August 28, 2026.
Written and produced by Linda Ikeji and directed by Toka Mcbaror, the film marks the studio’s return to Nigerian cinemas with a powerful story inspired by one of the country’s most controversial episodes involving police accountability and justice.
The Night of June 7th draws inspiration from the 2005 extrajudicial killing of six young Nigerians in Apo, Abuja, an incident that sparked widespread public outrage, protests and a prolonged demand for justice. The case later resulted in a landmark court judgment in which two police officers were sentenced to death.
More than two decades after the incident, the story continues to resonate as part of Nigeria’s broader conversation around human rights, police accountability and the pursuit of justice.
The film features an ensemble cast led by Gideon Okeke, Femi Branch, Ali Nuhu and Charles Lenny, bringing the long-remembered events to the big screen through a dramatic retelling.
Speaking about the project, Linda Ikeji described the film as a story Nigerians have waited years to see, saying it seeks to preserve the memory of the victims while confronting the difficult questions surrounding the incident.
“Six young people went out one night and never came home, and this country has never stopped asking why.”
She added that the film is intended not merely as entertainment but as a reflection on a painful chapter in Nigeria’s history and a tribute to those who continued to demand that the victims not be forgotten.
Director Toka Mcbaror said the production team approached the story with a strong sense of responsibility, particularly in preserving the memory of the six victims and capturing the emotional weight of the events.
According to him, audiences should expect an emotionally intense cinematic experience that confronts the realities surrounding that night.
With its blend of drama, history and social commentary, The Night of June 7th is expected to generate renewed conversations about justice, accountability and the enduring impact of the Apo killings.
The film will open exclusively in cinemas nationwide on August 28, 2026, with distribution handled by Nile Distribution. Tickets will be available through major cinema chains ahead of the release.
