LOTUS Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Nigeria’s livestock sector following a strategic visit to the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PrES), highlighting renewed efforts to unlock the vast potential of an industry that employs nearly 30 per cent of Nigeria’s rural population but contributes less than 10 per cent to Agricultural GDP and only 2–3 per cent to the nation’s overall GDP.

Stakeholders described the disparity as both a challenge and a major opportunity for economic growth, job creation and food security.

The engagement underscored a shared resolve to improve livestock productivity, strengthen resilience, and accelerate commercialization across the value chain, while enhancing Nigeria’s capacity to respond to crises and emergencies affecting rural communities.

Speaking during the visit, participants emphasized that sustainable development requires intentional collaboration between finance, policy and industry players, noting that strategic partnerships are key to transforming the livestock sector into a driver of inclusive growth.

The visit was attended by the Managing Director of LOTUS Bank, the Group Head of Retail Banking, National Project Coordinator Sanusi Abubakar, Ambassador Emmanuel Usman, Chairman of ABIS Group and owner of Nigeria’s largest abattoir, alongside other key stakeholders.

Observers described the gathering as a powerful convergence of expertise and influence, bringing together financial institutions, policymakers and industry leaders to chart a practical path toward strengthening Nigeria’s livestock ecosystem.

The partners pledged to move beyond dialogue to concrete action, positioning livestock development as a cornerstone of rural prosperity and national economic transformation.
