The newly inaugurated Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Magnus Abe, has resumed duties with a commitment to strengthen the Commission’s capacity in delivering its statutory mandate.

Abe, who officially assumed office on April 28, 2026, said the board would focus on providing effective leadership and oversight to reposition the Commission for greater efficiency.

“I want to assure management that we are here strategically to work with you and see that, as much as possible, we work together to uplift the Commission and to help our country,” he said during his first address at the Commission’s headquarters.

He also pledged to work towards securing a more befitting office for the Commission to enhance staff productivity and operational effectiveness.

In her remarks, the Commission Chief Executive, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, congratulated the new board members, noting that their guidance would be crucial in steering the agency in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act.

Eyesan described the board’s inauguration as timely, particularly amid rising global oil and gas prices linked to tensions in the Middle East, adding that the development presents both challenges and opportunities for Nigeria’s energy sector.

The NUPRC plays a key role in regulating upstream petroleum operations in Nigeria, ensuring compliance, transparency, and optimal resource management.
