Military Pensioners to Undergo Electronic Verification for Seamless Pension Payments
By Aysha S. Rabo
The Military Pensions Board (MPB) has launched the Military Pensions Board Electronic Verification Management System to enhance the verification process for military pensioners. This electronic solution aims to alleviate the challenges associated with physical verification exercises, such as the age of pensioners, transportation costs, security risks, and the burden on pensioners living abroad.
The MPB Chairman, Air Vice Marshal I.P. Irumheson, emphasised that the electronic verification is designed with the welfare of pensioners in mind, leveraging technology for accuracy, convenience, and user-friendliness. He assured pensioners that the process is secure and will not compromise their pension payments.
The electronic verification will commence with a pilot test involving 300 pensioners from each of Nigeria’s 36 states from February 19 to March 1, 2024. Selected pensioners will receive instructions via SMS to download the verification application and complete the process from their locations.
Upon successful completion of the pilot test, the application will be deployed on a full scale, allowing pensioners to verify their eligibility electronically at scheduled intervals. The MPB has pledged to conduct a massive awareness campaign to sensitise pensioners and the public about the system.
