Military Pensions Board Warns Retirees Against Fraudsters Seeking Personal Information
The Military Pensions Board (MPB) has issued a fraud alert to military retirees and next of kin, cautioning them against disclosing sensitive personal and financial information to individuals seeking to exploit pension-related processes for fraudulent purposes.
In a statement issued by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Squadron Leader Aliyu Mohammed, the MPB said it had received reports of individuals requesting confidential information from pensioners under various pretences.
According to the statement, some fraudsters have been demanding personal details such as Bank Verification Numbers (BVN), National Identification Numbers (NIN), bank account information, ATM card details and other sensitive data.
The Board strongly advised pensioners and beneficiaries not to disclose such information to any individual, group or platform that is not officially authorised by the Military Pensions Board.
Mohammed emphasized that the Board does not engage third parties to collect personal or banking information for the processing of pensions, gratuities, loans or any other retirement benefits.
He urged retirees to treat any request for such information from unofficial sources with extreme caution and to promptly report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare of military pensioners and ensuring that pension administration processes remain secure, transparent and free from fraudulent interference.
The Military Pensions Board also encouraged pensioners to rely only on official communication channels for information regarding their benefits and pension-related matters.
