MNJTF Partners with OCHA to Strengthen Humanitarian Support in Lake Chad Region
The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) have announced a strategic partnership aimed at bolstering humanitarian efforts in the Lake Chad region.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Lt. Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Chief Military Public Information Officer, Ndjamena, Chad. This collaboration seeks to address the pressing challenges faced by vulnerable populations in the area.
MNJTF Force Commander, Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, made the announcement during a visit by OCHA’s Head of Office in Chad, Dieudonne Bamouni, to the MNJTF Headquarters.
The meeting took place on May 28, 2024, and marked a significant step towards improving coordination and response mechanisms in the region.
General Ali expressed gratitude to OCHA for its diligent coordination of humanitarian support.
He emphasised the MNJTF’s commitment to peace and stability in Lake Chad, stating, “We welcome any effort that will bring peace and stability to our region.”
Dieudonne Bamouni, in turn, commended the MNJTF for its tireless efforts.
He specifically highlighted the force’s non-kinetic strategies, which have led to an increase in terrorist surrenders.
Bamouni acknowledged the progress made by the MNJTF in stabilising the region and emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts.
OCHA’s ongoing activities in Chad include providing support to affected populations, ensuring access to essential services, and addressing critical needs.
The partnership with MNJTF will enhance these efforts, allowing for a more comprehensive and effective humanitarian response.
One key aspect of the collaboration is training MNJTF personnel. OCHA will focus on educating them about the implications of sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) during their operations.
“By enforcing ethical standards and protecting vulnerable populations, the MNJTF aims to create a safer environment for those affected by conflict and displacement.
The partnership between MNJTF and OCHA represents a crucial step towards long-term peace and stability in the Lake Chad region.
“As humanitarian challenges persist, this joint effort seeks to alleviate suffering and build resilience among communities facing adversity.
