Multinational Joint Task Force Reiterates Commitment to International Laws
In a recent meeting at MNJTF Headquarters on February 22, 2024, Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, the Force Commander, reaffirmed the Multinational Joint Task Force’s commitment to international laws, particularly those governing armed conflicts. The assurance was given during a visit by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation from Chad.
General Ali commended the ICRC for its support to victims of armed conflicts and expressed the MNJTF’s eagerness to strengthen collaboration with the humanitarian organization. He emphasised the significance of adhering to established international laws and standards governing situations of armed conflict, especially considering the ongoing conflicts in the region that pose risks to civilian populations.
The Force Commander expressed his readiness to work closely with the ICRC to improve conditions for those affected by conflicts and ensure that the MNJTF’s actions remain within the bounds of international legal frameworks.
Alfa Mamadou Djallo, the leader of the ICRC delegation, outlined the purpose of their visit, focusing on updating the Force Commander about the ICRC’s activities in the Lake Chad Basin region. Djallo affirmed the ICRC’s commitment to providing continuous support to the MNJTF in fulfilling its mandate. He stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to assist and protect individuals in conflict zones, highlighting that the ICRC’s doors are always open for such cooperation.
