Musa Iliasu Remembered for Pioneering Western Education in Kano
Musa Iliasu is being celebrated for making history as the first Hausa man to attend middle school—now known as secondary school—in Kano around 1939, a milestone that paved the way for future generations in the pursuit of formal education.
His younger brother, Salihi Iliasu, later followed the same path, with both brothers regarded as pioneers whose commitment to education helped inspire many young people across Northern Nigeria.
Their legacy continues through the renowned Musa Iliasu College, an international school in Kano that bears his name. Established more than 40 years ago, the institution is recognised as one of Kano’s first-generation private schools and has remained committed to academic excellence and character development.
