The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out air strikes on two illegal oil refining sites in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State, as part of its Operation Delta Safe. The sites, located at Krakama and Temakiri, were about 50 km southwest of Port Harcourt, the state capital.

According to a statement by the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the air strikes were conducted on 1 March 2024, after intelligence reports indicated the presence of active illegal oil refining activities and Cotonou Boats used for siphoning crude oil from the sites. The NAF jets hit the targets and destroyed them in flames, along with the boats.

The statement also said that the air component extended its armed reconnaissance to Abisse and Omoma, where it found only abandoned illegal refining sites. It added that the NAF and other security agencies would continue to work together to rid the Niger Delta region of the menace of oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
